Wildlife Tip of The Week

Does bird/pigeon needle strip work?

There are many pros for using a bird or pigeon needle strip to keep pigeons from making your home their ownthe birds can't land or roost on the surfaces on which the needles or spikes have been installed, they do the job pretty well, you can get them in different colors to try and make them look pretty. At the same time however, there are many cons for using a pigeon needle strip, the obvious one being they look very unsightly. It's not the kind of thing you want sticking out form the top of your garden wall and it detracts other wildlife and birds that you may actually want to invite into your garden. Not only that but birds have been known to build their nests ON TOP of the spikes which works pretty well as ato the pigeons, and in sunlight they can start to turn color, making them look even more unsightly even further. Bigger birds such as buzzards and vultures can easily bend the softer and more flexible spikes or needles, and in worst-case scenarios, birds and other animals can become ensnared on the spikes, killing them. You'll then need to clean up the mess, a job that I'm sure no homeowner would want to be faced with. The main reason for avoiding a pigeon needle strip is the fact that they don't look great. When you consider that the strips could prove detrimental to the lives of other wildlife, birds and even pets, you may just wish to reconsider using them.
