Wildlife Tip of The Week
The idea behind repellents and deterrents such as high pitched noise or sound machines is that the noise they omit, too high-pitched for humans to hear, annoys the animal so much that they leave your home of their own accord and set up home somewhere else. In theory, it should work quite well but when you put it into reality, things don't always go according to plan. These machines can be quite costly and there are quite a few things that can go wrong. Firstly, they'll cost a lot to run. Plus, when you're done and the snake is gone, you're going to take the machine away again and not having it running which means animals just like snakes are likely to return. Moving on from that, the ‘inaudible' noise is often audible to human ears so if you get a knock on the door late one night, it could be from your neighbor asking you to turn the damned thing off. That aside, snakes don't really get put off by the noise. They're proving to be quite well-adapted to living quietly alongside humans and many snakes often slither through the garden. You don't notice many of them and that's the pointthey want to be hidden and hide away. Noise might work to deter these snakes from your land but the high-pitched machines aren't always the best choice.
