Wildlife Tip of The Week

How to set up a snake fence - what is a snake fence?

A snake fence is a generic term given to a wide range of materials which can be used to provide a barrier to protect your home from slithering snakes. For many homeowners, this is a last attemptthe very last thing you can try after everything else has failed. These snake fences aren't the best looking, and they can be difficult and expensive to install, and you'll need to make sure you're using the right kind of material too. That's before you begin to think about the damage the snake fences can do to other wildlifewildlife that you might not want to deter from your yard. You can use a durable and strong material such as vinyl or wood to make a solid and standing snake fence structurethey be placed all around the perimeter of the home, a few feet high, to stop the snake from being able to gain access. Placing the snake fence at a thirty degree angle means that the snake can't get over it, and that makes fabric and soft-plastics harder to work with. Steel mesh can work but again, it can be dangerous and the rough wire can often rip and damage snakes. You might also run the risk of having other wildlife run-insan opossum getting caught up in it for example. Catch net fencing can come with the same risks but again, can keep the snakes out quite happily.
