Wildlife Tip of The Week

Keeping birds such as pigeons out of a barn

There's quite a few property modifications you can make whether it's to a barn or your home in order to keep pigeons or other birds at bay. One of the most obvious things you can use is a strip of spikes which make it rather uncomfortable (translated as impossible) for the pigeons to land. The downside with spikes of course, is that it discourages a number of other birds at the same time, something you may not want to do. Although to be fair, the spikes are still less discouragement than a cat. Nylon bird netting is another thing you can use on your barn or home although some homeowners will find this unsightly. This is usually the option taken by city council around their important buildingsjust take a drive around and may find some. This is a recommended option if you don't mind the way it looks, and definitely does the trick although it won't stop any bird poop dramas. You will also need to take into account that nylon bird netting (and other types of netting) can actually trap the pigeon and other birds, proving to be less humane than you'd hoped.
