Wildlife Tip of The Week
There are different laws in different state surrounding trapping pigeons and other birds. But the laws aside, trapping a bird like the pigeon would never work as a long-term solution to the bird invasion problem. These birds are very well-known for their ability to find their way back home and just in case you were wondering how far away you'd need to go to make sure your bird didn't come back, you're looking at somewhere in the region of about fifteen to twenty thousand miles. Yepthousand. And even then, after traveling all that way, your bird will probably die within a few days away from the group it's become a ‘family' with, food, water, a place to call shelter … Not only is this just not a sensible option, it's not a humane option. These birds are actually sociable. Shooting the bird isn't a smart option either. Once again there are different laws in different states so you'll need to do your research beforehand, and that aside, it's hardly going to be a time-effective method of getting rid of pigeons when there's a whole roost of them in your attic. As soon as you shoot the pigeon you've caught, the others will flap around and then you've got moving targets on your hand. Plus how long do you really think it will take you to trap / catch all of the roost? It's just not smart. Trapping as a whole is not a smart method. Legalities aside, there's just so much that can go wrong and not enough that can go right.
