Wildlife Tip of The Week

How do squirrels get in walls

Squirrels get into walls the same way they get into homes: through holes. Once a squirrel can get inside of your house, it will work its way into the spaces of your building. Modern architecture has a lot of gaps and empty spaces between walls, and everything is connected. If a squirrel comes in through the attic vent, it won't take it long to get into the wall through the insulation gap. It is not uncommon, but not the normal scenario to find squirrels in the walls. They like to remain in areas where there is quick access to the outside. A squirrel inside your wall has become too comfortable in the home, and you need to get moving on how to eliminate the pest. Squirrels can be handled with one way door traps or with repeater traps. The one way door is a nice method to use. It will allow the squirrel to exit the building but will not let the animal back inside. This way the squirrel is still alive and well, but it needs to find a new place to create a nest. Repeater traps work well, too, allowing multiple squirrels to be captured in one cage trap.
