Wildlife Tip of The Week

Do pest control companies remove birds such as pigeons?

Most pest control companies will try to help in a pigeon-at-home situation but if we're being brutally honest about it all, they don't do the best job. At times they may offer you a cage trap to try and capture the beast but this is a pointless and useless activity. Pigeons or other birds can remember a house up to , miles away. Unless you're taking that pigeon somewhere internationally, it's probably going to find its way home before you do. Other companies may offer you the use of poison which may seem like a great idea at the time, but really isn't a great idea at all. By using poison you may very well kill the offending birds but then you have a whole bunch of new problems on your handswhere are the pigeons going to die? How are you going to get to them? What are you going to do about all those pigeon carcasses? How are you going to ensure you have eliminated all disease risks in the bodies, any surfaces and material the bodies may have touched, and nesting material as well as waste matter? It's a long process plus we're forgetting the obvious pointthere isn't actually a registered poison for killing off a pigeon. You won't know what dose of whatever poison you do try to use to put down and once you've put that poison down, you're putting other people, pets and wildlife at risk of getting seriously injured. You could even face criminal charges if you're not careful. If I were you, I'd call in the help of someone who knows what they're doing. Someone just like me who's been successfully removing pigeons from homes for many years.
