Wildlife Tip of The Week

What should I do if a bird is flying around inside my home?

These pesky birds or pigeons are getting brave these days so it’s not unusual to find a pigeon in your home from time to time. The first thing you should remember is not to panic. When you panic, the animal will panic and when the animal in question (the pigeon) panics, it poops. The poop carries with it a whole bunch of disease risks, none of which you’d want in your home, around your children, or anywhere close to your pets. Once you’ve calmed down and realized there’s no point in flapping, try to open a door or window and let the bird fly outside of it’s own accord. If, after a while, the bird still hasn’t made its way to the open window, grab yourself the biggest, thickest gloves you can find and the thickest sweater to protect your arms and other bared flesh too, and try to shuffle the bird out the house as best as you can. You don’t really want to be stuck with trapping this animal. It flies for a start so it has the advantage over you. Plus physically catching the bird is a surefire way to injure itsomething I’m sure you’re hoping to avoid. Sadly we now live in a world where we have to live side by side with these animals, and killing or injuring it should be the very last thing on your mind.
