Wildlife Tip of The Week
The only thing you can do about pigeons is keep them away. Unfortunately, there are no successful ways to take a flock of pigeons and relocate them. Pigeons have a fantastic homing ability that allows them to return over hundreds of miles to their roosting location. Catching and moving pigeons are not options. The only way to exclude pigeons is to install bird spikes, netting, or wire mesh to keep them from landing on areas of a building. It's the droppings from these birds that cause the damage to homes and buildings. The caustic nature of pigeon droppings can corrode even stainless steel. There are other ways of keeping these birds at bay, like the use of harassment techniques. If you live in an area where it's practical to keep a dog, canines are excellent harassers of birds. The only problem is that dogs get distracted easily and can't be relied on to provide constant pigeon patrol. Noise makers are ineffective, even less so than with other birds because pigeons are used to living in cities where noise is constant and loud.
