Wildlife Tip of The Week

What tools can I use to catch a snake?

If you're faced with a snake in the home and you're not sure what else to do, a pillow case can be used as a snake-bag if you manage to get your hands on the slithering beast. This will only work if you have thick gloves to hand at the same time howeveryou're not going to want to approach a snake with your bare hands, not only because the bite can be quite painful but also because the bite itself can be venomous. The worst case scenario in this situation is that a venomous snake will bite you because you cornered it and made it feel threatened, and you die because of the potent effects the venom then has on your body. Obviously this is not the outcome you want. If a snake were to get inside your home, you'd need to make sure the snake wasn't venomous before you even thought about approaching it. Even thick gloves won't provide much protection when the snake can bite at your bare ankles or arms, or even worse than thatyour face. A much better decision is to not reach for any snake catching equipment at all and instead to call the local wildlife rehabilitators who have experience in catching snakes. They'll have everything needed to safely ensure that snake finds a new home.
